A long winter's nap

A long winter's nap
I haven't actually gone fishing since I was maybe 8 years old.

If you start worrying about why I'm not posting here (or are relieved), don't. I've decided to take the entire month of December off from writing. I can do that, you see, because I don't make any money from this in the first place, ha ha!

No, but see, after handing off my manuscript to beta readers, getting a fun, gruesome little short story published, and writing a pretty emotionally intimate newsletter last week, I thought it might be a good time to give my brain a rest. If anything comes up that I absolutely must write about, then I will. Otherwise, what are you going to miss out on, another interminable best and worst of the year list? Who could possibly give a shit?

ANYWAY, I plan to make a triumphant comeback in January, where I'll start focusing more on writing that's at least indirectly related to my manuscript, both as cheap and easy promotion, and because if I didn't find the subject endlessly fascinating and worth talking about, I wouldn't have written a whole book about it in the first place. Plus, there'll be the usual bullshit, with perhaps less of a focus on current events, because as I keep saying here and elsewhere, getting too consumed in current events (let alone other people's reactions to them) literally makes me want to die.

Speaking of which, against my own better judgment I'll still be around on social media, so I won't be too far away. If I haven't said it sooner, knowing I have a dedicated readership helps to keep the goblins asleep, and I appreciate you all more than you could possibly know. Happy holidays, and I'll see you next month as we continue navigating our way through this treacherous hellscape together.
